Release Note (October 1997) NetCDF to HDF converter (Ncdf2HDF.exe) version 1.0 for Windows Copyright 1997 Fortner Software LLC All rights reserved. This NetCDF converter was designed to enable you to convert your NetCDF files to HDF format. All datasets, their dimension scales and any attributes are written into a new HDF file. Please read the following usage notes before using the converter. USAGE NOTES Ncdf2HDF is a DOS based converter utility. Ncdf2HDF was tested with Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.1. Ncdf2HDF is not compatible with Windows 3.1. There are two ways to launch Ncdf2HDF, either from Windows 95 or from a DOS command line. If you launch Ncdf2HDF.EXE by double clicking on the file in Windows 95 you will be prompted for a filename in a DOS window. Type the file name or the full path name of the file you wish to convert. (i.e. test.nc) If you choose to type in the Ncdf2HDF command directly from a DOS window you can provide multiple files to be converted. (i.e. Ncdf2HDF test.nc test1.nc) Any time a conversion is done a new file will be created with a .hdf suffix. For example the command "Ncdf2HDF test.nc" will cause a new file called "test.hdf" to be created. If you receive any type of error during conversion, particularly any out of memory errors, the HDF file that is created will be empty and should be deleted. Increase the memory available to the application and rerun the application. USAGE WITH FORTNER SOFTWARE PRODUCTS If attributes are put into the resultant HDF file, it will not be compatible with Fortner Software's T3D(TM), Transform(TM), or Plot(TM) visualization applications. Use the Noesys(TM) Fortran 90-like interpreter language to write datasets into new files without any attributes. If you encounter any problems using the converter, please contact our Technical Support Department.
