It enables VisAD applications to read data from HDF5 files. VisAD (from the University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a Java toolkit for constructing interactive and collaborative visualization and analysis of numerical data. The VisAD HDF-5 Data Adapter consists of Java classes which call the NCSA Java HDF-5 Interface (JHI5), which calls the native HDF5 library. It follows the VisAD standard interface, so it can be used by any VisAD application. For further details, see: http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/java-hdf5-html/VisAD_HDF5_DataAdapter/ JHI5 version 1.1 for HDF5-1.2.1 =============================== The Java HDF5 Interface (JHI5) version 1.1 for HDF5-1.2.1 is now available. JHI5 version 1.1 is a bug fix release. The changes in JHI5 1.1 are: 1. H5.H5Sselect_elements() -- The arguments were incorrectly passed from Java to C. This is fixed. 2. Object references and region references did not work correctly. - The class HDF5Reference was eliminated. All object references should be passed as Java byte[], length 8 (object reference) or 12 (region reference). - All H5R* interfaces changed to use byte[] instead of HDF5Reference. - Region references are implemented and work correctly. 3. The Unix Makefile built the class HDF5CDataTypes, but failed to include it in 'jhdf5.jar' when running 'make install'. This is fixed. See the Java-HDF5 Home Page for futher details: http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/java-hdf5-html/ Pre-compiled binaries for HDF5-1.2.1 ==================================== HDF5-1.2.1 was released in December, 1999. However, at that time only the source code was available and not the pre-compiled binaries for the platforms tested. The pre-compiled binaries can now be downloaded from: ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF/HDF5/current/bin/ The HDF5 Home page is at: http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF5/ For information on the changes in HDF5-1.2.1 see Newsletter 49: http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/newsletters/newsletter49.html -------------------------------------------------------------- For questions regarding these or other HDF issues, contact: hdfhelp@ncsa.uiuc.edu
