# 🔆 Executive Summary: HDF5 Version 2.2.0

## Performance Enhancements:

- Added an I/O block cache to the ROS3 VFD to reduce the number of requests to S3 for files not using paged allocation

- Improved the performance of several tools (h5dump, h5ls, h5diff, h5repack, h5stat and h5format_convert) for specific file structures where many objects are linked to with multiple hard links

## Enhanced Features:

- Made several improvements to the CMake logic for handling filter libraries

## Java Enhancements:

- Added CMake cache variables for configuring Java dependency JAR paths, allowing system-provided JARs to be used in place of the bundled copies

Binary installers are provided for Windows and MacOS in .msi and .dmg format, respectively[^1]. `hdf5-VERSION.html.abi.reports.tar.gz` contains ABI compatibility reports for this release of HDF5. `hdf5-VERSION.doxygen.zip` contains the generated Doxygen documentation for this release of HDF5. The remaining archives contain HDF5 binaries with a pre-installed layout. These archives can be extracted and used directly, without having to use a binary installer program.
